| Guns Save Life Range of the Month Lefthander's Gun Club Loami, IL Short drive SW of Springfield September 2006 GunNews Lefthanders,
which caters to people who shoot from either side, not just the left,
is a multi-purpose shooting club located just a few miles southwest of
Springfield, IL.
The club has "upper" and lower" ranges, along with shotgun sports areas and clubhouse facilities. Cowboy Action shoots are held the fourth Saturday of the month, with registration starting at 9 AM and shooting starting at 10 AM. A trap range is available and sporting clays shoots are held periodically. The first Sunday of the month is IPSC day for the pistol shooters. Actually, you can shoot the IPSC match the day before, if you show up before 9:30 AM and if you help set up. On the first Sunday, registration for the shoot is at 8 AM and shooting begins at 8:30 AM. Black powder shooters also have their place at Lefthanders. Occasional matches are held, including long-range black powder cartridge silhouette matches. .22 rimfire benchrest fun matches are held the fourth Saturday of the month. These are for .22 rimfire rifles only, with wooden stocks - no tuners, no windflags and no one-piece rests. Bring out the old wood, or the new wood, so long as it is wood. Lefthanders supplies the targets; everyone shoots the same. Lefthanders supplies the ammo, everyone shoots the same. Each shooter supplies the skills - everyone does NOT shoot the same! Matches remaining this fall are on 8-26 at 6 PM; a long-range match at 9-23 at Noon; and a tournament on 10-28 at 8 AM. Lefthanders sponsors an active shooting program for young people, and there are no fees to youth for dedicated youth shooting events. Events are generally held at 9 AM on the first Saturday of each month, April through November. Lefthanders has an extensive website, and each shooting discipline has a contact person designated that can be reached by email. Club meetings, at which prospective members may get information and seek membership, are held the second Sunday of the month at 2 PM. To get to Lefthanders, take I-72 west towards Jacksonville. Take exit 91 toward Loami/Wabash Ave., and head south till road turns into Loami/Bates Rd. Stay on this road and follow it into Loami. When you have a gas Station on your east side, you will see WEST LOAMI RD West Loami Road on West Side. Take West Loami Road approximately 3/4 mile west. look for the Lefthanders sign and turn south on Rhea Park Road. Travel approximately 3/4 miles south on Rhea Park Road to the gravel drive leading back to the clubhouse.
