 Free-Speech Blackout Jim Butler President, SCRA October 2006 GunNews The free-speech blackout that started in September on federal election campaigns was due to the McCain-Feingold "Campaign Finance Reform" law, passed largely through funding from Hungarian-born financier George Soros. This law was passed ostensibly to remove the influence of large organizations (like the National Rifle Association) and to give more voice to the average American in our nation's federal elections. In reality, it has allowed the super-rich like George Soros to promote his extreme left-wing agenda through funding of special "527" organizations (named for the section of the federal code under which they are incorporated) while silencing the voices of individual Americans and the groups that represent them in politics. The campaign finance reform legislation put forth by McCain-Feingold, which Soros promoted heavily, was supposed to limit influence-buying. However, campaign finance reform seems to apply to everyone but Soros and his "soft money" projects. He has given millions of dollars through a network of "527" front groups designed to circumvent the McCain-Feingold soft money ban which he had so heavily promoted to control others. In fact, looking back, McCain-Feingold was nothing more than moral grandstanding by those who sought only to remove a perceived fund-raising and publicity advantage held, they believed, by "the other side." Of course, the major media has always been enamored with McCain-Feingold because it increases their influence on Americans through (unregulated) newspaper reporting and editorializing, while organizations representing the interests of millions of Americans like the National Rifle Association are muzzled. The 73-year-old Soros, has made it his mission, using his tremendous wealth and influence to destroy America's traditional Western values, our Second Amendment Rights, and George W. Bush. Through his immense spending on political issues, Soros has drowned out the voice of America's voters. Soros has spent tens, if not hundreds of millions promoting a left-wing agenda that promotes socialism, communism, abortion, feminism, gun control, abolition of capital punishment, voting rights for felons, legalization of drugs, euthanasia and gay marriage - just for starters. So why does Soros hate America's president and Republicans so much? During the Clinton years, Soros reached the Apex of his power, fame and influence. Since the election of George Bush (#43) he has lost much of that influence and now faces intense scrutiny and criminal investigations worldwide. One of which has resulted in him being found guilty of insider trading violations in France. Soros' Russian business deals proved very lucrative during the Clinton years. They began running into trouble in 1999 when federal investigators began auditing money transfers out of Russia through the Bank of New York and other banks. As much as $100 billion may have been laundered out of Russia, Some of this money may have been diverted from the International Monetary Fund and other foreign aid loans. Journalist Anne Williamson, who lived and worked in Russia on and off for a decade, details in her book, "Contagion: The Betrayal of Liberty - Russia and the United States in the 1990's," Soros' lucrative Russian deals during the Clinton years. Today's Bush administration has been very cooperative and helpful with Russian investigators. In part, as a result of this new cooperation, the Russians have been making arrests. They have arrested several Soros cronies involved in the fleecing of Russia, including Mikhail Khodorkosky, reported to have a net worth in excess of $15 billion. Here in America, Soros has continued to bankroll predatory lawsuits against the American firearm industry including the NAACP suit. He has liberally funded the Brady Campaign (formerly known as Handgun Control, Inc., and before that known as the Coalition to Ban Handguns) and its subsidiary, the so called Million Mom March. This foreign born billionaire, with his well known contempt for our founding documents and his anger at our interference in his money making enterprises, is using his left-wing ideology and vast wealth to destroy America's traditional Western values, including our right to keep and bear arms.
