Daley tries bringing the rest of us down to his level Jim Butler President, SCRA June 2006 GunNews Thanks to the efforts of Chicago Mayor Richard Daley, leader of one of the most corrupt city administrations in the United States today, the anti-gun proposals floating around the State Capitol building contain many of provisions so near and dear to the hearts of the anti-self-defense Nazis - all of them bad! These include state licenses for firearm dealers who are already licensed by the federal government accompanied by high fees and liability insurance - one gun a month, etc. You get the idea. Anyway, Mayor Daley isn't satisfied that he and his ilk have already helped Chicago achieve and maintain a high crime rate through their criminal-coddling policies and the disarming of law-abiding residents there. Their failed policies make it easier and safer for criminal predators to prowl the streets of Chicago. Chicago, thanks to the anti-gun mentality of people like Mayor Daley, has become one of the nation's violent crime leaders in general and in the murder rate in particular. Now he is trying to bring his victim-disarmament downstate. His plan: impose bizarre anti-gun ideas including suing gun manufacturers for someone else misusing their products. This lawsuit, if successful, would make it open season on manufacturers of any products which might be used to murder or injure someone. These products could be cars, ropes, hammers, alcohol, baseball bats, kitchen knives, common household chemicals, to name a few. This 'blame the business' mentality has been a major reason that in less than a decade product liability actions in federal court have increased over 500 percent. Liability lawsuits and insurance rates have skyrocketed. Instead of blaming inanimate objects we should hold those individuals responsible for crime accountable for their actions. However, Mayor Daley, who has been protected by armed body guards for much of his life, is instead wanting to pass more feel-good legislation. He wants to take your bird gun, your dad's .45 Auto and your kid's .22 semi-automatic rifle. He's harassing federally licensed firearm dealers, and trying to set up a statewide firearms registration system, which he knows is the first step in the process of eventually disarming Illinois citizens. If Mayor Daly truly believes in what he is trying to do to the rest of us, let him set an example by getting rid of his expensive armed bodyguards, paid for by the taxpayers, and move into one of Chicago's poorer neighborhoods. He will then be able to live like the rest of us peons instead of living the pampered and protected life style he now enjoys. I suspect his attitude towards self-defense would change in a hurry. Of course there is always the chance that Mayor Daley might share the same housing as former Governor George Ryan if the feds have their way. As I See it index Return to SCRA Home Page |
