Global gun banners
set sights on America

The other night I watched the "Great Debate" at historic King's College London between NRA Executive Vice-President Wayne LaPierre and Rebecca Peters, who heads International Action Network on Small Arms (IANSA), a powerful internationally funded United Nations "non-governmental organization NGO)" that is pressing for binding global action on civil disarmament.

Miss Peters, experienced at victim-disarmament, takes singular responsibility for "reform of the gun laws" in Australia - the confiscation of 640,000 registered semi-auto rifles and semi-auto and pump shotguns from licensed gun owners.

Peters repeatedly spewed the same tired dogma of the domestic and global anti-gun rights movement.  She cited junk science and bogus statistics, claiming success of gun bans in places such as Britain, and in Australia.

Unfortunately for her and Britain's citizens, reality is another story, as recent headlines declare "Violent Crime Soars" and the government there is actually considering changing the law to allow residents the right of self-defense.  In a nation where private ownership of handguns is banned, armed violence against a disarmed populace is at an all time high, like American big cities Chicago and Washington, D.C. with their draconian gun laws.  Criminals thrive where guns bans are in place, keeping their victims unarmed and defenseless.  It makes their predatory actions easier and safer.

Peters never acknowledged armed self-defense as even an alternative to submitting to physical harm.  When LaPierre asked her if she would shoot a rapist who was about to cut her throat, she stated "Women need to live in societies that respect their human rights."  She kept repeating that victims should depend upon the State or upon the United Nations to defend them.

As a retired policeman I know first-hand that police departments are simply historians documenting what happened and that courts have determined they have no responsibility to protect individuals.

Miss Peters also believes that the police should be disarmed so criminals won't feel the need to be armed.  Clearly this woman is living in some sort of a socialist Utopian dream world.

During the early 1970's, the Illinois State Police brass sent rank-and-file ISP troopers a survey to fill out regarding their feelings about possibly working without firearms. My answer was short:  "Hell no!"  It was one of the more polite ones.

Later, when pressed for what types of firearms should be allowed for Americans, Peters answered, "I think Americans who prove that they can hunt should have single-shot rifles suitable for hunting.  I mean American citizens should be like any other citizen of the world."

Peters seemed to despise the American Constitution, especially the Bill of Rights.

Wayne LaPierre reminded the audience and Peters of how American citizens came to the aid of Britain during World War II.  When the British had their backs to the wall and needed firearms of any kind to defend themselves from a German invasion, American National Rifle Association members sent them tens of thousands of firearms.

Rebecca Peters idea of "moderate gun control" means "no guns" for civilians.  Similar proposals remain a continuing nightmare for law-abiding citizens facing skyrocketing crime after implementation of "moderate gun control."  Gun owners in Great Britain and Australia dutifully registered their guns only to see them taken and destroyed by government in a category-by-category firearm roundup.

The last century was one of the bloodiest in world history, and tens if not hundreds of millions died at the hands of tyrannical governments after being disarmed.

My answer to those who want a UN gun treaty that would effectively repeal our Second Amendment is a resounding "Hell No!
