Federal government agents should be held accountable Jim Butler President, SCRA April 2006 GunNews The tragedies in Ruby Ridge and Waco were the direct result of federal jurisdiction in crimes once considered entirely within the province of state and local agencies. These events show the danger of the ever-increasing power of the federal law-enforcement agencies into these localities by using drug, gun and anti-terrorism laws. The United States was founded on the premise that government is the servant of the people, not their master, and that our inalienable rights are the foundation of civilization. Unfortunately, federal law-enforcement seems to have shifted away from that philosophy. It appears that various B.A.T.F. and F.B.I. employees acted dishonestly, maliciously and/or illegally at Waco and Ruby Ridge. In the Waco holocaust we see a nation with a press that foments hatred against unpopular religion, firearms; an increasing lawless and militaristic set of national police agencies and a generally apathetic public. What kind of country will we leave to the next generation if we are unwilling to restrain the abuses of the federal government? The necessary reforms to do this can be accomplished by using the ballot box, the jury box, and all other peaceful methods available to us to tame the federal government's law-enforcement agencies which have become a threat to the liberty of the American people. Our federal government, their agencies and employees should not be considered to be above the law. They have sworn to uphold the Constitution of the United States and should be held accountable for their actions if they violate this sacred trust. As I See it Index Return to SCRA Home Page |
